"Hello Gorgeous!"

A Workshop about Social Communication, Functional Communication and Language Development in Children with Autism

Mitra started Route 2 Language (see www.route2language.com) to provide quality services to children with autism and their families. She has 10 years of  experience with verbal and non-verbal kids on the autism spectrum both in private practice and in public/non-public education. She follows a developmental model that emphasizes social and functional communication. Her passion derives from her niece, who has autism. She personally experienced the challenges families face when a child is diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Her work is dedicated to meeting the needs of the families as well as the children. Mitra is currently working on her PhD in Infant Mental Health and Developmental Disorders through the Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders. She is also the co-creator of MyWire's Let's Cook! Life Skills for Kids on the Autism Spectrum.

While much of Mitra Ahani's work is with kids on the autism spectrum, much of what she discusses is more broadly applicable.  She works to make parents feel empowered, not frusterated or overwhelmed by providing tips for creating meaningful communicative interactions between parents and their kids during their daily lives
